The occupation of the Crimean Peninsula and hostilities in the Donbas region led to the emergence of thousands of refugees in Ukraine. Consequently, the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» has been involved in their material support, providing people in need with a wide range of necessary stuff. «Syaivo» has been involved in a program of assistance to families who need attention of society and state for the last six years.
On March 10, 2019, on behalf of our public organization, Professor Volodymyr Serhiychuk, the Chairman of the Board of «Syaivo», handed over 100 grocery kits to people in need in terms «Help to 1001 Family» charity campaign.
The International Cultural Center «Syaivo» which actively performs social activities participated in charitable event organized by the charity fund «With Warmth in the Heart» that takes care of children with physical disabilities.
The fund annually arranges a great event, supported and joined by people who cannot remain indifferent to the problems faced by children with special needs. The event provides children with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and talents in various fields of art and creativity.
This yearʼs celebration has already been held for the third time, and «Syaivo» Center has traditionally joined it. The part of festive program was devoted to the fashion show that gathered 35 young models. In addition, a series of events in the category «Mother-Daughter» was conducted in order to help parents of many children and those with special needs.
The event joined by «Syaivo» Center, gathered many public figures, friends and partners of the «Warmth in the heart» fund, as well as the representatives of media. The representatives of the above-mentioned fund expressed a huge gratitude to all friends and partners who willingly helped in organizing the festive program. The International Cultural Center «Syaivo» was also mentioned among the organizations honored for good deeds.
On March 27, 2019, the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» hospitably opened its doors to the graduates of Turkish language classes that have reached a new level in learning of this language. Both students and teachers of our center attended the event, which has already become a good tradition. The meeting was held in a relaxed atmosphere, so it resembled a gathering of friends who have the same hobby.
A friendly conversation was accompanied by drinking Turkish tea and tasting baklava, known as one of the main sweet symbols of Turkish cuisine. The participants of the event discussed a wide range of issues related to Turkish language and culture. Students told about the difficulties they have encountered during studying and shared their observations and amazing impressions about traveling to Turkey. They also asked the expertsʼ opinion about some nuances of Turkish grammar. The students of «Syaivo» sought to get more information about effective methods of learning foreign languages and the most efficient ways of comprehending various grammar patterns and constructions.
The discussion was devoted, in particular, to proverbs and sayings in Turkish: according to the students, this aspect was one of the most difficult and at the same time one of the most amazing ones in the process of studying. Numerous Ukrainian-Turkish language parallels given by the teachers illustrated this statement.
The employees of «Syaivo» acted as moderators of the event, during which its guests did not feel bored even for a moment. There was no need to search for new topics to discuss since both the teachers and the students were fully involved in their joint hobby.
The informal part of the meeting was followed by the awarding ceremony: «Syaivo»s students, that completed their A2 and B1 levels, were glad to receive diplomas assuring their success in Turkish language proficiency. After it, the students and their teachers were involved in a small photoset to keep the memories of that day.

On December 11, 2018, the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» held a round table upon the First World War and the way it affected Ukraine. The conference’s sessions were devoted to the discussion of the consequences of the First World War for the world, and in particular, for Ukraine, that became one of the largest arenas, where Russian, German and Austro-Hungarian armies fought. Emphasizing the huge human losses caused by the war, the participants of the event also mentioned hundreds of thousands of Galicians, Volhynians and the inhabitants of Chelm Land evacuated to the remote places of Russia. They have also admitted that most of them got no chance to return to their homes. In addition, the speakers considered the issue of the its destroyed infrastructure that dramatically affected the whole Ukraine.
The main speech was delivered by Bohdan Andrusyschyn, PHD in history and the dean of the Faculty of Politology and Law of the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University.
Petro Zakharchenko, PHD in law and professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and Ihor Turyansky, the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey, co-founder of the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» also joined the discussion. Experienced guests shared their thoughts on the subject with the students present at the conference.
Recently the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» held an event to honor a well-known Ukrainian writer and scenarist Andriy Kurkov, famous for his 19 novels, 9 books for children, 20 documentaries, numerous literary works and television scenarios. Andriy Kurkov, whose novels were translated into more than 36 languages, is widely known both in Ukraine and abroad. The literary event gathered the professors of Kyiv’s higher education institutions, journalists, students and the above-mentioned author’s fans.
The opening word of the evening was given to Volodymyr Serhiychuk, who is a chairman of the board of «Syaivo» and a professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Volodymyr Serhiychuk known for his works upon the history of Ukraine and its people’s evolution is also the author of nearly 100 books aimed at discovery of formerly hidden and unavailable facts of Ukrainians’ rebellious history.
Telling about forms and methods of his literary experiments Andriy Kurkov revealed many secrets concerning the way he works over his literary style, various images of his novels’ characters and their complicated relations. The author also shared some professional life hacks with the guests. Having remarked that he annually spends a lot of his time travelling around the world, Andriy Kurkov emphasized that he always tries not just to visit the main historical and cultural places of the country he comes to, but also observe and explore the way its people act, communicate, look and gesticulate. According to the writer, it gives him a clue about the way his future characters may behave and look like. Thus, Andriy Kurkov purposed to prove that nothing goes without a trace. Speaking of his new novels «The Schengen Areas» and «Gray Bees» Mr. Kurkov mentioned that while creating his novels he tends to show a real life with all its advantages and disadvantages. In order to prove it he illustrated this statement with several examples from these two novels.
Evaluating the current state of Ukrainian literature and exploring some authors’ works, Andriy Kurkov conducted an analysis of foreign and modern Ukraineʼs book markets. The analysis was based on his foreign colleagues’ and his own experience. In Mr. Kurkovʼs opinion today’s Ukraineʼs book market is still mixed and undeveloped as though it exposes quite different genres. According to him, since national writers do their best to supply our book market with better literary works Ukraine has a chance to gradually create its own cultural space filled with qualitative products. Mr. Kurkov thinks that it will enable Ukrainians feel they are the one and discover their identity.
At the end of the meeting, Andriy Kurkov answered numerous questions of the participants of the literary event, who visited «Syaivo» that winter evening.
